Several broken shapes were scattered around it, each lying in dark pools that glimmered wetly in the firelight. ![]() To her left lay an overturned van, similarly aflame. People fled from the apartments on either side, pushing and shoving at one-another in their desperation to escape. The apartment building directly in-front of her was ablaze, the towering inferno casting a flickering, orange light across the entire street. Glass crunched beneath her shoes as she stumbled into the middle of the road. She reached for the door-handle in a daze, pushing the door open and shakily stepping outside. Her hands shook as she unbuckled her seatbelt. The windows were broken, the evening sky beyond filled with dense, pitch-black clouds. A swift glance confirmed that she was sat in the back-seat of her parent’s car. Something roared in the distance, followed moments later by a sonorous boom.Ībigail hesitantly opened her eyes. Deafening gunshots split the air, drowning out the cacophony of agonised screams and panicked shouts. Abigail’s eyelids fluttered as she slowly regained consciousness.įlames roared nearby, bathing the side of her face in waves of scalding heat. ![]()
